After confiscating the title of being the world’s second largest manufacturer of mobile handsets in terms of volume from Motorola last year, the South Korean Company, Samsung Electronics Co. is now eyeing the top slot ravenously. And to take on the current world market leader ‘Nokia’, Samsung is even ready to completely overhaul its professional outlook.
Samsung Electronics Co. which until recently branded itself as supplier of only high-end handsets with best features is now expressing a desire to also manufacture low-priced mobile phones in developing markets specifically India, Southeast Asia and Latin America to defeat its rival market leader, Nokia. As such, Samsung Company plans to introduce color mobile sets in a $40 -$50 range in the market in 2008.
Spokesperson of the South Korean company said they want to become an all-around player in the mobile handset market. Therefore, Samsung wishes to shift its concentration from premium products to speed up its penetration into emerging markets. And if this can be achieved by having an upper hand in cost competitiveness factor, Samsung is willing to work on this too by launching low-end handsets.
