The famous luggage brand Samsonite is planning to diversify as a lifestyle brand very soon. Following the 9/11 tragedy and the alarming SARS epidemic, the sales of travel gear and luggage accessories have gone down, thus affecting the company. Having launched a successful shoe brand in Italy, Samsonite now plans to start the same in India. The lifestyle brand that shall be launched will primarily focus on travel related categories like perfumes, eyewear, watches, etc.
According to sources, the Shoe brand to be launched will be available under the brand names “Samsonite Classic” and the “Samsonite Black Label”. The former is priced between Rs. 4,000 and Rs. 6,500, while the latter may cost you anything between Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000. It is estimated that the first year of launching this lifestyle brand will generate revenue of around Rs. 15 crore to Rs. 20 crore. There won’t be separate outlets for this brand; rather they will be sold through the various Samsonite Travel world stores. Samsonite is the world’s largest luggage accessory maker. You can big suitcases to the smallest toiletry bag in the vast range that this company provides. Established in Colorado in the year 1910, this company was first named Shwayder Trunk Manufacturing Company, by the founder, Jess Shwayder. The company name was changed to Samsonite in the year 1966. This luggage gear giant has truly established itself as the ruler in the world of travel and shall continue to carve a niche for itself in lifestyle too!
