Sabyasachi Mukherjee is the only Indian designer who has yet again been invited in the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. The fashion week which is slated to start on the 12th of September, 2008 marks Sabyasachi's third appearance in a row. With the unveiling of this line of attire, Sabyasachi would make a hatrick in the fashion week. However, the event is all the more special as it also unveils a new line of jewellery by this ace designer, a field which was not explored earlier.
The new line of jewellery which would be showcased is brought out in association with GAJA, a brand of the Shree Ganesh Jewellery House Limited, Kolkata. The design of the jewellery has taken inspiration from the cross cultural concepts and has been manufactured from a conventional approach. The designer jewellery is a well blended mix of the tradition of India. From the quaint minakari to the attractive filigree from Bengal, the exotic beauty of jadau from north India or even the strikingly beautiful chettinad style of studded jewellery from south India, the ornaments depicts the traits of the rich jewellery heritage of India.
Before starting off as apparel designer, Sabyasachi began his career as a jewellery designer. While Sabyasachi hopes that his new line of jewellery would also earn him gamut of appreciation and acceptance like his couture line, GAJA hopes to promote the rich heritage of Indian jewellery overseas after the association with the designer. Sabyasachi’s show will take place at ‘The Salon’ at Bryant Park at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week on Friday, 12 September 2008.
