Watching Farooq Sheikh on-screen, after such a long time, was entertaining in itself. He sizzled in the movie, while Kirron Kher was also at her very best. The de-glam look suited Tanushree and she managed to give a good performance. While Ankur Khanna is getting better by the day, Masumeh played the role of a 'seductress' with perfection. Lilette Dubey, Sharon Prabhakar and Shehnaz Anand, as kitty party ladies, were good. Sudhanshu Pandey, though in a short role, managed to get noticed. If you are willing to bear with a medium pace and are looking for good performances, this film is just for you!
These days, TV seems to be utilized for two purposes only - watching the 'saas-bahu' sagas or keeping a track of the 'stock market. Through 'Saas Bahu Aur Sensex', Shona Urvashi has tried to bring together both the passions of the middle class society. The movie also reminds you of Sai Paranjpe's 'Katha', which has the likes of Naseeruddin Shah, Farooq Sheikh and Deepti Naval, though with a gender reversal in the love triangle. Compared to Urvashi's earlier venture 'Chupke Se', this one is definitely better.
'Saas Bahu Aur Sensex' opens with perfection and also unravels in the right way. However, the pace gets slow as the story moves on, and this is one of its major flaws. The long running time of the film has done it in, making it look too much dragged. While some of the plots are new and enjoyable, others are way too predictable. In other words, 'Saas Bahu Aur Sensex' is enjoyable in parts only. Another factor that works against the film is that director's stance on stock market is vague and the spoof on daily soaps not exploited properly.

The main characters of the movie are those of Nitya Sen (Tanushree Datta), Ritesh Jetmalani (Ankur Khanna), Vinita Sen (Kirron Kher) and Kirti Wagaskar (Masumi Makhija). Vinita is the mother of Nitya and one fine day, she divorces her husband, leaves his house in Kolkata and comes to Navi (new) Mumbai, along with her daughter.
Faced with unexpected circumstances, Nitya lets go of her ambition to do MBA in United States and starts working in a call center. However, life is not at all easy! The only solace in the new place is Ritesh Jetmalani, a happy-go-lucky guy, who works with her, in the same call center. He is too good for the world and always ready to help anyone and everyone, even strangers. The only vices in Ritesh's personality are his tendency to be late, his love for non-vegetarian food and his blind love and devotion for his girlfriend - Kirti Wagaskar.
Kirti is an extremely charming girl, with one dream - to marry a RICH guy. However, she is also practical and keeps Ritesh as his alternative, in case her dream doesn't turn into reality. Going back to Vinita, she is looking for a new start in her life and in Mumbai, is befriended by neighborhood women and joins their kitty parties. The one respite for her, financially, comprises of the shares her father has left for her. Vinita, somehow, traces his father’s old stock broking house, to understand the nuances of stock market.
At the broking house, she comes across Firoz Sethna (Farooq Sheikh), an ethical but eccentric broker, who helps her figure out everything. She starts dealing in the stock market and getting good money, in return. Soon, her 'kitty party friends' come to know of it and as she shares the reason of her new-found wealth, their kitty conversations switch from TV soaps to share market and investments. On the other hand, Nitya gets busy with her job and develops a wonderful relationship with Ritesh.
She tries to make Ritesh see the real 'Kirti', but he believes that one day she will realize the worth of his love and come back to him. On the other extreme, Kirti has her eyes set on Yash Modi (Sudhanshu Pandey), a billionaire by birth. Yash's father owns a large share of ‘M & M’, the financial call centre in which Nitya and Ritesh work. The lady luck smiles on Kirti and she meets him and everything seems to be falling in place. Soon, she realizes that Yash has no intentions of marrying her. In fact, he agrees to a match with the daughter of the owner of Macmillan financial group.
The alliance promises to be good for ‘M & M’ and based on this, Vinita and her 'kitty party friends' invest in the company. Learning about the engagement, Kirti comes back to Ritesh and agrees to marry him. At this time, Nitya learns that her father fell for a younger woman and this is why Vinita had to divorce him and come to Mumbai. She also comes to know that Vinita and her friends have invested in 'M and M'. Now, Nitya's life is in turmoil. Will she let Ritesh marry and allow the joining of Modis and Macmillan group or tell him the truth and break his heart? For answers, wait for the movie's release.
