Two words for 'Rock On!!' - 'it rocks'! Farhan Akhtar once made his directorial debut with 'Dil Chahta Hai', which was a smash hit. Now, he has made his acting debut with 'Rock On!!' and the film will definitely be a blockbuster. Rock On is a movie not only about rock bands and music, it is about relationships; it is about friendship. Abhishek Kapoor definitely deserves applause for handling the movie so well, while the actors need to be appreciated for giving a splendid performance.
Right from cinematography to screenplay to dialogues, everything about Rock On!! is commendable. As far as performances go, Farhan Akhtar has made an excellent debut and exhibits rare maturity for a first-timer. The other debut actor of the movie, Prachi Desai, is also commendable and does complete justice to her role. Shahana Goswami, yet another newcomer, is definitely praiseworthy. Rock On will be one of the best performances of Arjun Rampal, underplayed to perfection. Luke Kenny is very good, while Purab Kohli is hallarous. All in all, Rock On is one of the movies you should watch in a multiplex.

Through Rock On, Abhishek Kapoor has beautifully captured the essence of relationships i.e. how sensitive they are and how they can get very much complicated. Though there are some instances in which you will feel that the pace is a bit slow, but the direction, the acting, the execution, the story - all make up for it. While the narrative is compelling, the music is just perfect! Though some of the numbers are of the typical 'rock' variety, there are a few that will be unanimously liked by all.

After donning the hat of director, producer, story writer, screenplay writer and dialogue writer, Farhan Akhtar has finally made his entry in the field of acting. The man who gave us films like ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, ‘Lakshya’ and ‘Don’ is all set to make his acting debut with ‘Rock On!!’, a film scheduled for release on 29th August 2008. The movie has been directed by Abhishek Kapoor, while Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar are the producers. It will be released under the banner of ‘Excel Entertainment’ and presented with ‘Big Pictures’.
‘Rock On!!’ has Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy as the music directors and lyrics have been provided by none other than Javed Akhtar. The star cast of the film includes Farhan Akhtar, Prachi Desai, Nicolette Bird, Purab Kohli, Luke Kenny, Arjun Rampal, Shahana Goswami and Koel Purie. Apart from acting in the movie, Farhan Akhtar has also sung five of the nine songs in it. The film is based on the life of four friends, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Luke Kenny and Farhan, who wanted to become rock stars.
It is the later half of the 1990s and rock music has witnessed a shot in the arm, with the emergence of Grunge. There is a group of four friends who have formed a rock band ‘Magik’, with the hope of riding the popular wave. One of them is Aditya Shroff, a bohemian riotous boy from Delhi. He has a dream - of becoming a singer in a rock band. In pursuance of his dream, he leaves the comforts of his parental home and ends up becoming the lead singer of 'Magik'. Joe Masceranous is a guitarist who hails from a family of failed musicians.An idealist, Joe does not want to be another name in the list of failures. Though he doesn’t talk much, his guitar does and it takes him to the position of the lead guitarist of 'Magik'. Kedar Zaveri is a drummer who prefers to be known as KD "Killer Drummer”. He is the heart of 'Magik'. Rob Nancy is a carefree person, who serves as the quiet fence sitter of 'Magik'. His aim was to be a part of something truly ethereal, something like 'Magik'. The four guys meet, become friends and put together one of the greatest bands of the country.
The only problem is that nobody recognized their talent and they could never make it. They say dreams do come true, whether now or later, if you believe in them. Years after the failure of the band, the four friends meet once again, determined to start from where they left off. Life has given them a second chance, but this time, a lot more is at stake. What will Aditya, Joe, Kedar and Rob do? Will they be willing to put everything at stake, just to see their long-cherished dream come true? Will they be able to create ‘Magik’?
