Roasting Chestnuts

It’s winter time again! The leaves have started falling and the snow has started covering the entire town in a white cloak. Don’t all of us just love to sit by the fire at such time, on a cozy sofa, snuggling up with a good book? If you have hot chocolate and some crisp, roasted chestnuts to go along with it, it is like heaven on earth. You will have to get the hot chocolate on your own, while we tell you all about roasting the chestnuts. In the following lines, get all the information related to roasting chestnuts in the oven and on an open fire.

How to Roast Chestnuts in the Oven

Items Needed
  • Baking Sheet/ Shallow Pan
  • Chestnuts
  • Paring Knives/Fork
  • Salt
Method
  • Clean the chestnuts properly and dust off any dirt.
  • Take each chestnut and, with the help of a sharp paring knife, cut an ‘X’ on its one side. This will help the steam to escape. You can also prick the chestnut with a fork for the purpose.
  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Put the chestnuts on a baking sheet or in a shallow pan, making sure to keep the cut/pricked sided up.
  • Keep the baking sheet/pan in the oven and let the chestnuts roast for 15 to 25 minutes (till they are tender and get easily peeled).
  • Take them out, cool and peel. Add salt and chestnuts are ready to eat.
