How to Roast Chestnuts In The Oven
 
Items Needed
  • Baking Sheet/ Shallow Pan
  • Chestnuts
  • Paring Knives/Fork
  • Salt 
Instructions
  • First of all, you will be required to clean the chestnuts properly and dust off the dirt on them, if any.
  • Take each chestnut and, with the help of a sharp paring knife, cut an ‘X’ on one of its side. This will help the steam to escape through, while you are roasting them. You can also prick the chestnut with a fork, for the purpose.
  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
  • Put the chestnuts on a baking sheet or in a shallow pan, making sure to keep the cut/pricked side up.
  • Keep the baking sheet/pan in the oven and let the chestnuts roast on 425 degrees, for 15 to 25 minutes (till they become tender and are easy to peel).
  • Take the chestnuts out of the oven, let them cool down and then peel. Add salt, as per taste.
  • Your roasted chestnuts are ready to be eaten. 
How to Roast Chestnuts On An Open Fire
 
Items Needed
  • Chestnuts
  • Firewood
  • Frying Pan, with Lid
  • Paring Knives/Fork
  • Salt 
Instructions
  • First of all, you will be required to clean the chestnuts properly and dust off the dirt on them, if any.
  • Take each chestnut and, with the help of a sharp paring knife, cut an ‘X’ on one of its side. This will help the steam to escape through, while you are roasting them. You can also prick the chestnut with a fork, for the purpose.
  • In the next step, you will have to build up the fire, on which to roast the chestnuts.
  • Take a frying pan or some other dish that has a long handle attached to it.
  • Put the chestnuts in the pan, keeping the cut/pricked side up, and cover the pan with the lid.
  • Place the pan over the open fire and roast the chestnuts for 15 to 25 minutes till they become tender and are easy to peel).
  • Remove the chestnuts from fire, allow them to cool and then peel.
  • Add salt to the roasted chestnuts, as per taste, and start relishing them then and there.
