A special diamond studded flat television was recently unveiled by Philips Electronics at Mumbai. Priced at $155,000, there are about 2,250 diamonds embedded on the façade of this special Philips TV. Presently, the company has been taking this diamond-encrusted flat television known as Ambilight, around the world. At the conclusion of this world tour, the television will be auctioned and the money thus raised will be given away in charity. Philips Electronics India is a branch of the Netherlands-based Royal Philips Electronics.
Officials from Philips Electronics India revealed that the company would begin producing Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) televisions by the year-end, which are presently being imported from outside. Further, the company officials claimed that they had sold about 1.30 lakh LCD sets last year and expect sales to hike up to around nine lakhs by 2009. The LCD TV sale is expected to reach around 3.07 lakh and four lakh in the current year. Philips LCDs is seeing a 15 per cent growth in the 42-inch volume.
