Olympus launched a new camera - E420 DSLR, a follow up to the E-410 single-lens reflex digital camera. As per the company officials, E 420 DSLR is the world's smallest digital SLR and second lightest DSLR (next to E-410). The digital camera has been based on a Four Thirds-type N-MOS image sensor and boasts of a resolution of 10 MP. As an improvement over E-410, E420 has been given a modified handgrip, to ensure better comfort, along with a bigger and improved LCD display.
The LCD display of Olympus E420 DSLR is 2.7" HyperCrystal II one, which offers twice the contrast and
better viewing angles. However, the resolution of the camera is the same as that of 410 i.e. 230,000 dots. The colors of the screen-printed icons on the body of the camera have been altered in such a way that those with protanopia, deutranopia or tritanopia will be able to see them quite clearly. E-420 has also been equipped with Live View Autofocus function, operating via contrast detection of data streaming off the image sensor.

E-420 has also been equipped with Live View Autofocus function, operating via contrast detection of data streaming off the image sensor. The new model boasts of having Face Detection Technology, which enables it to detect and track as many as eight faces in a scene. After detecting the faces, it uses the info to adjust focus and exposure in such a way that helps bring out the very best out of the picture. The Shadow Adjustment Technology of Olympus E420 DSLR will be helpful in bringing out the details of even the underexposed areas of a scene. As an addition to the value of the camera, it has been provided with Perfect Shot Preview function.
With it, you can easily preview several photographic effects on the LCD display of the camera, before capturing an image. Other features of the camera comprises of improved Auto White Balance, Dust Reduction, Wireless Flash Capability, 6 levels of Image Quality, 3X Optical Zoom, 60 - 1/4000 second Shutter Speed and a lot more. Olympus E-420 is expected to go on sale from May and priced at $499.99 (body-only), $599.99 (with ED 14-42mm f3.5/5.6 Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens) and $699.99 (with ED 25mm f2.8 Zuiko Digital Lens).
