Nokia N95 is a flagship smartphone manufactured by the Nokia Company. It happens to be a part of Nokia’s Nseries group of smartphones. Recently three of its newer versions were launched in the market, one of which is the upgraded handset ‘N95 8GB’.
Design
With dimensions of 99 x 53 x 21 mm, the Nokia N95 8GB mobile phone takes designing cue from the original N95 design. The sole variance in the new Nokia 8GB can be said to be its additional weight. It has acquired 8g over its antecedent causing the weighing scales to tilt at 128g. As far as form factor is concerned, this Nokia N95 8GB mobile phone remains hugely unchanged, but its screen definitely has been designed a little larger.
At the same time, the screen of Nokia N 95 8GB is also resistant to scratches. The phone uses a two-way slider to access either media playback buttons or a numeric keypad. The user can slide the phone down and expose the multimedia buttons, while simultaneously altering the screen orientation to landscape. There are other designs similar to the original N95. There is the same assortment of keys / buttons beneath the screen, with the charging and the USB slot at the base. The camera in the new Nokia N95 8GB along with the flash is sited at the back. It is visible beneath the lens, instead of being beside as in the original N95. The stereo speakers are positioned on the handset’s either side, with specific camera buttons to the screen’s right along with the volume/zoom keys. While the power button is at the top, the secondary camera lies just over the phone screen. Not very different from the original N95 really!
Features
In features, this cell phone sports everything the original N95 comprised of. There is no variance in ARM 11 332 MHz processor. The fallout is that this mobile phone is a little sluggish. However, Nokia has compensated this by power-backing the 8GB handset with a 128 MB SDRAM memory compared with the 64 MB in the original set. This, infact, is the best feature about the Nokia N95 8GB phone. The phone is packed with some new features.
For example, while the original N95 contained Wi-Fi, GPRS and EDGE too, the new Nokia N95 8GB's GPRS transfer rates are a little quicker. This one employs Class 32, 107 / 64.2 Kbps. It has also got Bluetooth and Infrared facilities. The 8GB uses the Symbian Series 60 9.2 with feature pack 3.1. Even though the UI is among the best, it takes a backseat because of the slow processor. Standard features like Office applications - Word, Excel and PowerPoint are all there. The user can also see PDF files.
Though the browsing on Nokia N95 8 GB is a lot of fun but while accessing heavy sites the handset flashes a bad request sign.. Moreover, the 8GB phone will not download from the Internet any applications or files it cannot support. As in the original N95, the 8GB too comes equipped with an integrated GPS receiver which operates smoothly in eight cities including Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore.
Furthermore, the Nokia N95 or 8 GB also has the Zip for opening zipped files and another application ‘Barcode’ which is meant to read barcodes. The camera again in this handset is unchanged. It is a 5 mega pixel auto-focus one and quite spectacular really. The large screen substitutes as a superb viewfinder. Apart accessing in an automatic mode, the user can also access in scene modes and control exposure settings like in any budget camera. There is also a brilliant video recorder.
