After months of speculation, the official word is finally out. Volkswagen will be showcasing its new Scirocco at the Geneva Auto Show, scheduled to start from 6th March 2008. The latest edition of Scirocco will be broadly based on the ‘Iroc concept’ of Volkswagen, which we got to see in the 2006 Paris Auto Show. The car is expected to be launched in the European market by the summer of 2008 and is expected to be priced under $40,000. As far as the style and design go, one cannot see much improvement from the previous one.
Since Volkswagen honed its final production shape, one can see the result in the form of a bit more conservative front end. The new Scirocco, based on Golf, will be a four-seater and will be having almost the same carriage and overall dimensions as the GTI. However, the car does seem to be a bit longer, lower and wider. At the time of its launch, the car will be powered by a 197-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter TFSI engine. The customers will also get a choice between six-speed manual and DSG dual-clutch gearbox. In the second half of 2008, Volkswagen is expected to also offer a common-rail diesel and two other direct-injection gasoline engine options, along with its seven-speed DSG. ESP, ABS and six airbags of the car ensure that it is totally safe. The adaptive chassis control system, with which the car has been equipped, will offer the driver a choice between three predetermined settings - comfort, normal and sport. Last, but not the least, the new Volkswagen Scirocco will also have electromechanical steering.
