The craze for world cinema is increasing at a fast pace amongst the Indian audiences. Embarking upon this opportunity, the entertainment company of NDTV - NDTV Imagine has launched a world cinema project called NDTV Lumiere.
NDTV Lumiere will be an entirely dedicated international film channel which will bring the contemporaneous world cinema one step closer to theIndian audience. The company had made an association with the founder of Adlabs, Mr. Manmohan Shetty along with a famous film activist and ‘Bheja Fry’ fame producer, Mr. Sunil Doshi for its distribution and marketing.
NDTV Lumiere is a one of its kind initiative in India which will focus entirely on the India’s world cinema acclaimers and film enthusiasts. The channel will provide an easy access to various genres of top-class international movies through various digital platforms such as theater, home video, a 24-hour television channel, DTH and online.
Its total project cost has been estimated to be around Rs. 19.50 crores, out of which NDTV will invest Rs. 12.24 crores and while the rest will be obtained from other two partners. According to the post-investment agreement, NDTV Imagine will hold 51 percent stakes of Lumiere whereas Manmohan Shetty and Sunil Doshi will have a share of 29 percent and 20 percent, respectively.
The initial aim of the company is to release around 60 films in Indian theaters in the month of March. The genres of these films will span from horrors to thrillers and from political dramas to even animations. The countries whose artworks will be showcased on the channel will include France, Germany, Spain, China, South Korea, Latin America and many others.
As far as the television channel is concerned, it is expected to be on air at the end of April. Also, the home video segment of Lumiere is expected to be launched around first quarter of this year. Initially, the company has planned to launch NDTV Lumiere in 9 cities, including the major metro cities.
