By launching the new sports utility vehicle ‘Outlander’ in the second half of 2008, the Mitsubishi Motors Company is all set to bolster its grip over the fast growing SUV sector in India. With this all-wheel-drive, off-roader Outlander, the company will be targeting the semi-premium SUV sector. It is learnt that Outlander would be priced somewhere between Pajero (Rs 18.8 lakh ex-showroom Delhi) and Montero (Rs 31.48 lakh).
Mitsubishi Outlander is a compact crossover SUV based on the Mitsubishi Active Sports Crossover (ASX) concept vehicle. The ASX concept has the advantage of all-season and off-road abilities offered by a high ground clearance and four-wheel drive, while at the same time offering car-like levels of emissions, economy and size. Mitsubishi Outlander is equipped with a 2.4L MIVEC engine that is mated to a 6-speed CVT with paddle shifting. The vehicle is fitted with an electronic controlled four wheel drive that is based on All Wheel Control philosophy.
