Mithya Review

Genre: Comic Thriller
Director: Rajat Kapoor
Producer: Arindam Chaudhuri
Music: Sagar Desai
Star Cast: Naseeruddin Shah, Ranvir Shorey, Vinay Pathak, Neha Dhupia and Saurabh Shukla

After a long time, we finally have a movie that is worth watching in the cinema hall. Yes, Mithya is definitely worth spending those bucks in the multiplex near you. It promised to be a comic thriller and surely, it scores on both the aspects. We find neither the comedy, nor the thrill missing in the movie. The laughs have been scattered throughout the script, in a way that you can easily enjoy them and not get off the track from the thrill. The best part of Mithya is that the story completely backs both the direction as well as the acting.

Ranvir Shorey has done complete justice to his role as an ordinary person, who somehow gets stuck in extraordinary circumstances. He is constantly changing expressions in the movie, going from frightened to romantic to enthused, all in a matter of minutes. We can easily identify with the pain that the protagonist is going through and do not find it hard to sympathize with him. Vinay Pathak does not have too many scenes in the movie, but the ones he has have been brought out brilliantly through his performance.

The surprise package of Mithya is Brijendra Kala, who plays Vinay’s comrade in the movie. He has the perfect comic timing and never fails to tickle your funny bones. Saurabh Shukla, Naseeruddin Shah, Harsh Chhaya and Iravati Harshe play their part to perfection. As for Neha Dhupia, she doesn’t get much to do in the movie. With Mithya, Raja Kapoor has definitely managed to gain the audience attention. The movie has its flaws too, especially in regard to music and the unexplored romantic angle. But then, perfection is a rare quality today, isn’t it!
