Almost all the teenage girls in India have grown up reading Mills and Boon (M & B), while dreaming about their ‘tall, dark and handsome’ Prince Charming. What better Valentine’s Day gift than having Mills and Boon come to India. Yes, you are reading it right. Andrew J Go, Director of Harlequin Enterprises (the Canada based publisher of Mills & Boon), has announced plans of launching a modern series title in India, featuring an Indian hero who will also be shown based in the country itself.
Infact, Harlequin Enterprises has set up its subsidiary in India, Mills & Boon India Private Limited, which will print and distribute books locally. The firm has already tied up with ‘Thompson Press’ and ‘India Today Group’ for the printing and distribution aspects, respectively. The aim behind this move is to expand the presence of ‘Mills & Boon’ in the domestic Indian market, along with the other South Asian countries.
Since the past 60 years, Harlequin Enterprises has been exporting M & B’s to India. With the setting up of its subsidiary, the publishing house intends to increase its presence in the Indian market. The firm has plans of pumping in substantial investment in the country, with the motive of recording consistent year-on-year sales. Harlequin Enterprises also intends to use India as its base for catering to the other South- Asian countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh.
