Small is big this season. With the launch of Nano, seems like every other automobile wants to make a big statement with a small car! As reported in The Times Of India, Maruti-Suzuki is planning to come up with its own version of a small car. Not much information is known about this as Maruti is being extremely tight lipped about this venture. This is the third such news about small car after Nano and Bajaj small car.
A number of vendors have been entrusted with the task of developing special components for the small car. It is estimated that the small car could be on the roads as early as this year-end or early next year. Excluding insurance, this car is supposed to be priced around Rs. 1.5 lakhs, a tad higher than Nano. The vehicle will be powered by a Suzuki 660cc engine, unlike the Nano that has a 623 cc engine.
It is learnt that Suzuki has codenamed the project as ‘Under A’ since this car would be placed under the A-segment. The high brand equity in the automobile market in India will enable Suzuki to overcome the price difference. Right now, the project is being handled in Japan at the Suzuki headquarters and will be produced in India eventually. But Maruti has denied any plans for such a car and termed these reports as baseless.
