Looks like India has turned out to be a favorite destination for global launches of automobiles. This relatively holds true for compact cars. Earlier this month, one saw the global launch of the Hyundai i10 compact car. Following the trend is the reputed automobile maker Maruti Suzuki. According to reports, Maruti Suzuki is all set to unveil its concept car A-Star in Delhi in the Auto Expo 2008. The new concept car has been developed jointly with the parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation.
After being launched next year, the car will be available in the Indian market only by 2009. The premium hatchback compact car will also be manufactured for Nissan under a contract. It will be then exported to different international markets. The world debut of A-Star will make it the first concept car to be launched in India in the 26 years of Suzuki Motors Corporation’s services here. The A-Star will truly be a star attraction at the Auto Expo 2008, showcased among 20-odd models that the company will be displaying there.
This concept car has been totally designed in India and will be launched before MSI’s global compact car that will be launched probably after 2010. This car will be equipped with a 1.2 liter - 1.6 liter engine and shall be available in both diesel and petrol versions. Maruti Suzuki will also be showcasing the opulently designed mid-sized concept sedan, Kizashi. This car will be showcased in the lower premium segment along with cars like Honda Civic, Toyota Accord, Chevrolet Optra and Hyundai Sonata.
