The UK clothing retailing major, Marks & Spencer has decided to slash down the prices of its garments by 35 per cent in India in order to reach out to more consumers. Since its debut in India in the year 2001, Marks & Spenceris presently operating about 12 showrooms across the country. Men’s shirt that was originally priced at Rs 900 can be purchased at Rs 750 now. Similarly, the cost of men’s jacket that was earlier priced at Rs 6,950 will come for Rs 4,745 now.
The reduction in the price of Marks & Spencer products in India came about following a directive from the parent company to turn aggressive and quickly capture some more market share. When M&S first hit the Indian shores in 2001, there was hardly any competition in the market. But with so many foreign brands making a beeline for India, this UK apparel and toiletries retailer feels a need to offer discounts in the prices of menswear & womenswear.
