The branch of Mahindra Group that is set to venture into lifestyle products is the Mahindra Intertrade.
Entry into Indian Retail Sector
This company has licenses for distributing children’s clothing and toys of big names like Lego, Walt Disney, Mattel, Nicklodeon, etc. In an year, this division shall be transferred into a separate company by the name of Mahindra Retail. The organized retail market in India is growing at a very rapid pace and Mahindra has tapped this opportunity at just the right time. They are charting out a retail business plan keeping in mind lifestyle related products that will attract maximum consumers, but are not including grocery.
The plan has been put into action but has remained a low-key affair. Instead of publicizing it through news stories or press releases, people have come to know about this venture through the ads that have been appearing in the newspapers. They are hiring people at all levels and the business plan will be finalized once they hire a senior team. They do not expect to face any opposition from smaller stores as they wish to sell products like children’s branded toys and apparel.
