After a long wait, Kismat Konnection has finally hit the theaters and it seems to have a good kismet. One of the major reasons why Kismat Konnection seems poised to be well received by the viewers is its simple story. Devoid of any ‘mirch-masala’ or melodrama, the movie allows you to connect with it. It is a story of a guy who has everything bad going on in his life till he meets a girl. This is when lady luck smiles on him and success comes his way. Many of us have experience the same things, haven’t we!Kismat Konnection makes you smile and the best part is that the humor is subtle and subdued. Thank God the directors have finally got over the loud slapsticks of the past. If you are planning to watch a movie with family, then Kismat Konnection is a very good choice. However, there are a few flaws, like the songs creeping in without any timing and a few clichéd scenes. Apart from that, it provides you with good and clean entertainment. The soundtrack is good and even the cinematography manages to impress you.
Talking about performances, Shahid Kapoor has done a good job. He has matured as an actor and looks completely natural. Vidya Balan, as always, has given a very good performance. Her simple appeal and easy charm definitely clicks with the audience. Vishal Malhotra, as Shahid`s best friend, does a fantastic job. Juhi Chawla is endearing and Himani Shivpuri is entertaining (after quite sometime). This leaves us with Om Puri and Boman Irani, who are, as usual, at their very best. All in all, Kismat Konnection is good entertainment.
Kismat Konnection Pre-release Review
After the success of ‘Chalte Chalte’, director Aziz Mirza took a long hiatus from movies. The ace director is back in the business once again. He has come back with another romantic movie, ‘Kismat Konnection’, scheduled to be released on 18th July 2008. It has been produced by Kumar S. Taurani and Ramesh S. Taurani and will be released under the banner of ‘Tips Films’. The music for the film has been provided by Pritam, while Shabbir Ahmed is the lyricist. The star cast of ‘Kismat Konnection’ includes Shahid Kapur, Vidya Balan, Haidar Ali, Vishal Malhotra and Om Puri, with Juhi Chawla in special appearance.
‘Kismat Konnection’ is the story of Raj Malhotra (Shahid Kapur), a struggling architect, and Priya (Vidya Balan), a crusading activist. Raj was the number one student in college, whether it was academics, sports or dramatics. In fact, he was believed to be the next architect to grace the covers of Time magazine. He left college confident of his abilities and his luck, to become one of the most successful architects of Canada. However, four years have passed since he kept foot in the outside world and till date, nothing has happened. Raj is still looking for that ‘One Big Chance’, to make the world sit back and notice him.
In fact, he seems to have bad luck (kismat) following him wherever he goes. The moment anything good is going to happen to him, some or the other problem comes along and destroys it. For example, the day he has to go for some very important meeting, the alarm refuses to ring, the shower has no water and even his car breaks down. The end result - either the deal is dead or the client is no more. Now, he is sure that his luck is in serious jeopardy. Trying to find some solution to his bad luck, Raj comes across Hasina Bano Jaan (Juhi Chawla), an eccentric oracle who predicts future.
She tells him that his stars are going to change soon and bring loads of good luck into his life. However, to make this happen, Raj has to find his lucky charm and keep it with him forever. Stopping the prediction at this, she leaves him totally confused as to what his lucky charm could be. One day, he meets Priya and suddenly, life changes completely. He manages to bag a prestigious project from builder Sanjeev Gill (Om Puri), serving as his perfect break as an architect. As for Priya, she is an activist, who has a heart of gold. Her life is devoted to her causes, her people and her love.
Priya is willing to give everything to make the world a better and more humane place to live in, without expecting anything in return. In fact, she is ready to fight her way, alone, to pursue what she believes in. Raj manages to convince Priya that he is the one who can save her beloved Community Center from destruction. Along with that, he makes her see the true side of her philandering fiancé (Amit Verma). Has Raj realized that Priya is indeed his lucky charm or he is doing this for some other reasons? Will he be able to keep Priya with him throughout his life? Where will his luck lead him? Only Kismet Konnection can answer!
