If you were waiting to see a movie based on 'sons of soil', the wait is definitely far from being over. Kissan MovieThough director Puneet Sira started with the aim of making a movie that would glimpse through the life of what a farming family undergoes, the results were far from being satisfactory!! Kisaan, being his second directorial venture after 'I…Proud To Be An Indian', is mostly worked upon the same grounds. Starting as a melodramatic saga, Kisaan completely turned tables as the scenes progressed, giving way for violent and brutal scenes to take charge.

The basic premise of Kisaan is so scrawny that even a novice movie-goer would be able to decipher it immediately. While the first half can still be interesting for people who are game for watching a typical farmer based movie - with farmers singing songs on dharti maa and illiterate villagers, borrowing money from the evil moneylender, the second half of the movie is only meant for those who have a heart to watch the most unpalatable of footage. Burnt faces, slit throats, blood-stained weapons and deaths-by-dozen are the key characteristic features that dominate the latter half of the movie.

Add to above, a typical clichéd fight with the protagonists taking every villain one by one - the predictable pattern, wherein the hero is cornered, attacked, struggles, the counter-attacks and finally the killing (of the villain obviously). Another major drawback of the movie is that it is filled with manipulative tricks, with the father lying on the hospital bed, while his 'educated' son is partying around. Predictable plots, unsurprising incidents and humdrum scenes would surely leave you devastated. So in short, we can say that the screenplay of the movie would be better not discussed or thought about.

Coming to the star cast of the movie, Sohail Khan shines like a star. He tries to do justice to his role; but his character is far from being acceptable. Jackie Shroff as usual plays his character up to the mark, while Arbaaz Khan is at complete loss of expression. Dia Mirza is full of beans and adds the much needed energy and vibrancy to the whole movie and so is Nauheed Cyrusi. The music of the movie is just alright. Overall, if you are ready to watch an enthralling tale of loud family drama, coupled with 'bloody' warfare, Kisaan can be a good option.

Kisaan Pre-release Review
Bollywood seems to be awakening to its social responsibility. Be it development disorders or the problems faced by ordinary people, Bollywood films are trying to bring various issues to notice. The latest flick based on the same lines is 'Kisaan', a Puneet Sira-directed melodramatic saga of a simple farming family in Punjab. It has been produced by Sohail Khan and Ronnie Screwvala. The star cast includes Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, Jackie Shroff, Diya Mirza, Nauheed Cyrusi, Dalip Tahil, and Sarfaraz Khan. The movie will be released on 7th August 2009, under the banner 'Sohail Khan Production'.

The story of 'Kisaan' revolves around the life of Dayal Singh (Jackie Shroff), a farmer who lost his wife a long time back. Apart from taking care of his ancestral lands, he spent his whole life in raising two very different sons - Aman (Arbaaz Khan) and Jigar (Sohail Khan). Aman, who received formal school education, becomes a city-based lawyer. On the other hand, Jigar remains by his father's side, partially because of Dayal's lack of funds and the rest because of his own interest in farming, rather than anything else.

Sohan Seth (Dalip Tahil) is a cunning businessman who starts convincing stressed and cash-strapped farmers of Dayal's village, to sell their lands for his commercial interests. Whether his convincing arguments don't work, Sohan makes use of the aggressive tactics of Nirmal (Romeo), the village's heavy hand. This not only leads to disruption of the peace and harmony of the village, but also endangers Dayal's family. Soon, Dayal and his sons become engaged in a battle of right, with each of them being focused on his path to success.

The battle has Aman and Jigar standing face to face, rather than side by side. Their different outlook towards land and its value bring them at loggerheads with each other. While one of them considers the land to be his 'mother', the other values it simply as a piece of property. As the story moves further, they find themselves going in a direction that has no return path. Their women Priya (Dia Mirza) and Titli (Nauheed Cyrusi) add to the drama and conflict. At the end of it all, a tragedy forces them to reconsider their beliefs. What will they do now?
