Khoya Khoya Chand, the much anticipated movie directed by Sudhir Mishra has been released. The movie stars Soha Ali Khan, Shiney Ahuja, Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak and Sonya Jehan. The subject matter of the story is very intriguing, but could have been portrayed in a better way by the director. The movie scores in styling and music; much effort has gone in getting the elegant touch of the sixties. On one hand, you realize what is going on in the mind of the director, but then you don’t quite get the same on-screen.
The performances are pretty good. Soha Ali Khan takes the cake, more so because the entire film is focused on her. She does justice to the role by her fabulous acting. Be it the dialogues or the body language, she carries off the style and elegance of the actresses in the sixties flawlessly. Vinay Pathak plays a side-kick and is very convincing in his role, but the immensely talented actor must not remain in an image crunch in the long run. The story revolves around the travails of a young actress, struggling to find her real identity in the make-believe world of movies and glamour. Soha plays the role of Nikhat, a young artiste whose pushy mother takes her along to get heroine roles in films. That, at the tender age of a mere 15 years. So, she comes across many directors, producers and actors who leave her with emotional scars. However, she finds her true love in the form of Zafar and together, they make a great pair, both on-screen and off-screen. But some differences crop up due to which they both have a fall out and while Zafar moves to England, Nikhat drowns herself in alcohol.
Fast forward to a few years and Zafar returns back to India, only to find that Nikhat has a hole in her heart. They both agree that despite whatever happened, they still were in love and she agrees to do a film with him. The movie ends on a somber note with the message on the screen that they eventually marry, but she dies a year later. The music of the movie is brilliant and makes you tap your feet, especially the title song. In a nutshell, the movie entertains in bits and pieces and you get to see some good acting. You are even transported back in time, though the chic look of Shiney Ahuja brings you back to reality in no time! It is good for a one time watch with friends on a lazy afternoon! Khoya Khoya Chand Pre Release Review
Khoya Khoya Chand is an upcoming Bollywood film that has been directed by Sudhir Mishra. The film stars Shiney Ahuja and Soha Ali Khan in the lead roles while Vinay Pathak, Rajat Kapoor, Sushmita Mukherjee and Sonya Jehan portray other important characters in the film. The film is to be released in December, 2007. The literal translation of the name of the movie means “Lost Moon”. The backdrop of the film is set in the 1950’s. This was the time when the Indian film industry came of age and fabulous films were made.
Shiney Ahuja portrays the role of a brilliant writer-director Zafar Ali Naqvi who meets one of the most beautiful and famous actress of that time, Nikhat Bano (Soha Ali Khan). The two fall in love but face numerous obstacles in the glamour industry. It is the darkness beneath the glamour that makes their love volatile. The film beautifully portrays the heartbreaking choices that have to be made when ambition comes knocking at the door. This film is a tribute to the entire film industry and the shining stars of the 1950’s. The movie was originally titled Bahut Nikle Mere Armaan, which was taken from Ghalib’s famous line 'Bahut Nikle Mere Armaan, Phir Bhi Kam Nikle'. Apparently Soha Ali Khan was not the first choice for the lead role and Vidya Balan was approached for the same. Since she could not commit due to date problems, the role went to Soha Ali Khan. She claims that this has been the most challenging role in movies so far and also undertook Urdu, Kathak and acting classes for it. Sudhir Mishra has earlier worked with Shiney Ahuja in the movie “Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi” and this is their second movie together.
