Jodhaa Akbar Review

Directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar, Jodhaa Akbar is all set to be released sometime in the first half of 2008. It stars actors Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in lead roles and revolves around the love of Emperor Akbar, the founder of the religion Din-i-Ilahi and his beloved Hindu wife, Jodhabai. Jodhaa Akbar will also witness the debut of newcomer Abir Abrar.

Jodhaa Akbar is a 16th century romantic saga based on an arranged marriage between Emperor Akbar and Rajput princess, Jodha that flowered into true love in the time that followed. Political success knew no bounds in the life of Emperor Akbar. After conquering the Hindu Kush, Akbar went on to extend his empire stretching from Afghanistan to the Bay of Bengal and from the Himalayas to river Godavari.

Later, Akbar somehow managed to win the confidence of the Rajputs considered the most aggressive of the Hindus, through shrewd mix of tolerance, generosity and force. But little did the Mughal Emperor know when he wedded the proud Rajput princess Jodhabai that he would fall head over heels in love with her. In order to get authentic facts, Ashutosh Gowariker put together a massive research team of historians and scholars from New Delhi, Lucknow, Agra and Jaipur.

The director of Oscar-nominated Lagaan, Ashutosh Gowrikar put his heart and soul behind the making of Jodhaa Akbar. The shooting of Jodhaa Akbar began at Karjat in Maharashtra. The film script also took them to Rajasthan and Agra for outdoor shooting.  More than 80 elephants, 100 horses and 55 camels were used in the shooting of the movie Jodhaa Akbar.

The music of Jodhaa Akbar has been composed by the renowned music composer, AR Rahman. The soundtrack of the movie will be released on November 27, 2007.  There will be six songs in the movie composed by AR Rahman. Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik have sung a qawwali in the film titled Khwaja Mere Khwaja.
