The directorial debut of Abbas Tyrewala and acting debut of Imraan Khan has hit the theaters and guess what; the movie seems to be on its way to become a hit. Let’s talk about the basic facts first. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is a love story, which has been repeated many times onscreen. However, what works for the movie is the fact that it has been treated very differently from its predecessors. Abbas has brought freshness to the film with the way he has handled the script. In fact, it seems more like an Archie-type of movie, with similar fun and frolic thrown in.

The first half of the movie is excellent, but as it starts getting a bit too lengthy in the second half. Even the climax, which we have seen in many other films, is clichéd. Still, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na definitely impresses you. When you watch it, you seem to get transported back in time, to the phase when you were in college, totally carefree, with friends being the most important. The best part of the movie is that there is no melodrama and the entertainment is light and breezy. The songs are too good and cinematography is excellent.

As for the performances, Imraan has played the role of ‘boy-next-door’ perfectly, while Genelia takes credit for freshness as well as spontaneity. The other friends in the group - Karan, Alishka, Nirav and Sughanda are also pretty good. Pratiek Babbar comes as a pleasant surprise and Naseeruddin Shah impresses us once again. While Majari is very effective in her role, Ratna Pathak Shah is at her very best. Paresh Rawal, as usual, tickles your funny bones. In short, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is definitely a film worth watching in a multiplex!

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na Pre-release Review
The third film to be released under the banner of ‘Aamir Khan Productions’ is set to hit the theaters on 4th July 2008. Titled ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’, it will also serve as the launch pad of Aamir Khan’s nephew Imran Khan. It also marks the directorial debut of Abbas Tyrewala, who has written films like Maqbool, Main Hoon Na and Munnabhai MBBS. The music for the movie has been given by A. R. Rahman, while Abbas Tyrewala is its lyricist. The cast includes Imran Khan, Genelia D'Souza, Karan Makhija, Alishka Varde, Pratiek Babbar, Ratna Pathak, Manjari Fadnis, Ayaz Khan, Sugandha Garg, Nirav Mehta & Renuka Kunzru.

‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ is set in the background of a college campus. It begins at the airport, with a story, being told by Rotlu, Jiggy, Bombs and Shaleen to Mala. The story is about Jai Singh Rathore (Imran Khan) and Aditi Mahant (Genelia D'Souza). Jai is a Rajput, but only by name. Unlike most of the Rajputs, he is non-violent and cannot even kill an ant. Aditi, on the other hand, is the total opposite of Jai. She is violent and passionate, aggressive and over-zealous. The worst thing that a person can do is get on the wrong side with her and he will have to bear with a mouth that abuses and can go on forever.

In short, it is better to stay away from her. The only thing you can do after picking a fight with her is wait till Jai comes, since he is the only one who can calm her down. Talking about Jai and Aditi, can you even think of them forming a romantic couple? No, I guess! However, God has made some other plans for them. Even though Jai thinks Aditi’s parents should have rinsed her mouth to rid of all the foul language and Aditi thinks of Jai as the biggest coward she has even met, heaven seems to be in the mood of making them fall in love with each other.

Now, let’s talk about the other characters. While Rotlu secretly adores Aditi, Bombs seems to have fallen ‘head over heals’ in love with Jai. Jiggy is another character, who applies golden mascara to his hair. The only sane person in the group seems to be Shaleen. Coming back to Jai and Aditi, everyone knows that they are made for each other, except the duo themselves. Will they ever realize their love for each other? ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ a tale about friendship and bonding, love and heartbreak, joy and sorrow, and realizing about that love in your heart.
