In case you notice any of the symptoms of dehydration then the best solution is to drink plenty of fluids.

  • One should drink the fluids even if one is not feeling particularly thirsty. Throughout the day you should drink at least ten to twelve glasses of water or any other fluids like juices.

  • Dehydration can also be prevented by eating lots of hydrating foods like fresh fruits and vegetables. You should remember to drink lots of water after consuming salty and dry foods.
  • If dehydration is due to fluid loss because of excessive heat, then you should immediately move to a cooler place to prevent heat loss due to sweating. Staying in a cool area will also prevent heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

  • Apply a wet cloth to the neck, collar bone, wrists, inner thighs, arms and armpits. Such areas of the body absorb moisture quickly. As and when required, re-moisten the cloths.
  • Start drinking water and juices in small amounts. If you vomit or start nauseating, wait for some time and then start taking the fluids again. It is also better if you indulge in watery fruits like watermelon.
  • If the dehydration is too severe, then it is imperative that you seek medical help. If untreated, severe dehydration can lead to death.
  • Children, elderly and those who are recovering from any illness should drink plenty of water every day to prevent dehydration.
