Growing Dreadlocks Naturally

Comb Coil
  • The first step would be to part a section of your hair and apply locking gelon it.At the time of twisting, make sure that the section is pretty small. Once the locks mature, they would automatically thicken up.
  • Start by combing that section of your hair which you have parted. Stop when the comb reaches mid length of your hair. Using the comb, twist the section of the hair, making a tight coil.
  • Now, try pulling down the comb slowly through the section of your hair. Remember, when the comb is completely out of the section, your hair would be in a tight coil.
  • Repeat the process with all the sections of your hair.

Palm Roll
  • The first step would be to part your hair in a number of sections. Now, apply locking gel to one of the sections.
  • Put that hair section in the middle of both your palms.
  • Push the hair in a way that one hand is up and the other down and the hair gets rolled. This will create a coil in the hair.
  • Continue with the procedure, until the entire section is tightly coiled.
  • Repeat the same procedure on all the other sections of your hair.

Two Strand Twist
  • For two-strand twist, you need to first section off a portion of your hair and apply locking gel to it.
  • Now, divide the section into two strands.
  • Twist the two strands together, in a way that they are one over the other.
  • Keep on twisting the two until you get to the end.
  • Repeat the same procedure on all the other sections of your hair.

Three Strand Twist
  • In case you want to go for a three strand twist, you need to follow almost the same procedure as the two-strand twist i.e. section the hair and apply locking gel to it. However, this time, divide the section into three strands.
  • Fastening the center strand, twist the other two strand around it, in the same direction. It would look like as if the other two strands are chasing each other.
  • Continue doing this until you reach the end of the hair.
  • Repeat the same procedure on all the other sections of your hair.

Maintenance Tips

  • For maintaining the beauty of your dreadlocks, make sure you use a product that does not cause a lot of buildup. Remember, products that are too thick and heavy stay in your locks, making them look dirty. Avoid products that have beeswax in them.
  • While most people think that dreadlock requires no shampooing, it is wrong. You must shampoo your hair, though gently, to keep the locks clean and soft.
  • It is also very important to oil your hair regularly. It would keep the hair from drying out.
  • Make sure you twist the base of each lock properly, to keep it tight. For those whose locks are still new, the best bet would be to clip the ends after they have washed their hair and keep them so until the dreadlocks dry.
