Best Way To Clean A Hat

Items Needed
  • Two Plastic Strainers
  • Stain Remover
  • String
  • Laundry Detergent
  • Vinegar (optional)
Instructions
  • Take two round plastic strainers that are about the same size as your hat.
  • Place one of the strainer open side down.
  • Put your hat on the strainer in such a way that it looks as if the strainer is wearing the hat.
  • If your hat is very dirty, this is the time to treat it with the stain remover.
  • Take the second strainer and place it on top of the hat, again open-side down
  • Using the string, tie both the strainers together. Make sure to secure them tightly.
  • Now, put your hat in the washing machine and add the laundry detergent.
  • Keeping the machine on warm setting, wash the hat thoroughly.
  • Once the washing is over, check the hat for stains.
  • If any stains are visible, treat it again with the stain remover and repeat the entire process.
  • After you are convinced that your hat is clean, air dry it; while keeping it positioned on the strainer.
Tips
  • In case it is only a patch of your hat that needs to be cleaned, you can work on that particular area without washing the entire hat. If only the brim or the outside of the panel needs to be cleaned, you can use a clean piece of cotton cloth and rub the stained portion in the direction of the stitch. Many people do the mistake of rubbing up and down the entire area or in circular motions, which will only worsen the condition.
  • Many people use water and vinegar for cleaning hats. Vinegar is extremely useful for cleaning stains. However, even if after the use of vinegar, the stain refuses to fade, you can try using market cleaners. While using such cleaners, keep one thing in mind that the material can sometimes shrink hats and hence use them only when the vinegar method fails to give results.
