Oily Skin Care Tips

Cleansing
As the first step towards taking care of your skin, you need to undertake a proper cleansing procedure. Make sure to wash your face at least twice in a day, once in the morning and once before going to bed. This will help remove the excess oil from your skin, which attracts dirt and might also lead to blemishes. However, it is not advisable to wash your face more than twice in a day, as it might strip the skin of its natural oils and make things worse.

Makeup Remover & Face Wash
Whether you use makeup on a regular basis or an occasional one, make sure to use a good makeup remover and clean the face thoroughly with it, before going to bed. Thereafter, wet your face with warm water, use a face wash and then rinse with cold water. Go for the face wash and makeup remover especially made for oily skin. If possible, get a face wash that contains salicylic acid, which is good for such type of skin.

Astringent/ Acne-Fighting Cream
After you are done with the cleansing part, make sure to use an astringent on your face. However, go for one that does not have alcohol as its base and do not use it more then once in a day. Otherwise, you might end up making your skin excessively dry. Apart from that, you can also ask your dermatologist to suggest an acne-fighting cream. Most of these creams can be used once or twice a day, depending on their strength.

Moisturizing
Moisturizing your skin forms a very important part of the overall care regimen. While buying a moisturizer, make sure that it is specifically meant for oily skin. The frequency of using moisturizer will depend upon you. If you feel that your skin becomes dry after cleaning and using astringent, it is advisable to make use of the moisturizer. Avoid moisturizers with cocoa butter and minerals oils; rather go for ones labeled as non-comedogenic.

Facial Masks
Using a facial mask once a week will prove great for your oily skin. It is advisable to go for clay mask, which helps clean the skin deep down into your pores. Apart from the extra oil, the clay mask will also remove dead cells from your skin. However, stick to once-a-week routine in case of clay facial masks. Otherwise, it will make your skin too dry and the result will be an increase in oil production, to make up for the lost oil.

Sunscreen
Whether you go outside the house, make sure to use sunscreen on your face as well as the other exposed body parts, whether it is a sunny day or clouds are visible outside your window. You need to have a sunscreen lotion with at least 15 SPF. In this case also, stick to the one especially made for oily skin. In case your moisturizer also has 15 SPF in it, there is no need to opt for a separate sunscreen for your skin.
