- First of all, put the table sugar in the bottle, through the funnel.
- Now, measure 1/4 tsp of powdered baker's yeast and add it to the bottle, through the funnel.
- Now, shake the bottle well. This will ensure that the yeast grains get evenly distributed in the sugar.
- Remove the funnel and swirl the sugar/yeast mixture at the bottom, in such a way that a hole is created in the middle, to catch the extract.
- Again, place the funnel on top of the bottle and add root beer extract on top of the dry sugar.
- Now is the time to add fresh cool tap water, with only a little chlorine, to the bottle. Fill the bottle halfway with the water.
- Give the water a nice swirl, so that the ingredients in the bottle get dissolved.
- Again, put water in the bottle, this time - fresh water. Make sure to fill the bottle to the neck, leaving only about an inch of head space.
- Close the bottle, screwing the cap tightly. Now, invert it a number of times, so as to dissolve its contents thoroughly.
- Keep the bottle at a cool place, almost at the room temperature, for about three or four days.
- Squeeze the bottle lightly. If it gives a forceful squeeze, move it to a cooler place, below 65 deg F (18 deg C).
- Your root beer is ready. Before consuming it, put it in the fridge overnight and let it get chilled thoroughly.
- At the time of opening the bottle, first crack its lid lightly. It will help release the pressure slowly.
