Recipe 1

Ingredients
  • 2 cups Boiling Water
  • ¼ cup Tartar
  • 1 cup Salt
  • 1 cup Baking Soda
Instructions
  • In a pan, take two cups of water and bring it to boil.
  • In a measuring cup, mix together baking soda, salt and cream of tartar and transfer the content into a sealable plastic bag and shake well.
  • Now, empty ¼ cup of this mixture over a clogged drain and pour water and allow it to stand for 30 minutes and then run fresh water over it.
  • Your clogged drain will be clean.
Recipe 2

Ingredients
  • 1 cup Baking Soda
  • 2 cups Boiling Water
  • 1 cup Vinegar
Instructions
  • To begin with, drain out all water from the sink and sprinkle baking soda down the drain.
  • Decant vinegar down the drain hole and close the mouth immediately, not waiting for the vinegar to settle down.
  • This may lead to the formation of bubbles.
  • Allow the bubbles to settle down for 30 minutes, before pouring boiling water down the drain. The baking soda reacts with vinegar and carbon dioxide to form sodium acetate that naturally scrubs the drain clean.
  • After the stipulated time period, pour in the boiling water. The boiling water would thaw the rubble, leaving the drain clean.
Tips
  • For obtaining maximum benefit, allow the drain to remain unused for some time.
  • After the cleaning is done, run hot water through the drain, the first time you use it. This would help flush away any unwanted debris and dirt, if left over.
  • In case you have used a commercial drain cleaner earlier, it is advisable not to use the homemade solution given above, as traces of the chemical present in the commercial drain cleaner may still be there in the drain and can react with the homemade ingredients to produce unwanted results.
