Kids these days are on a different high! The highly successful and Emmy Award winning original movie of Disney channel, High School Musical has come out with its sequel. It is simply titled High School Musical 2. The drama was premiered on August 17th, 2007 on Disney Channel in the U.S. and on Family Channel in Canada. The debut of High School Musical 2 was viewed by some 17.3 million viewers in US; almost 10 million more than the original. This made it the highest-rated basic-cable broadcast in the history of U.S.
The High School Musical revolved around the story of two high school students Troy (Zac Efron) and Gabrielle (Vanessa Anne Hudgens) and their love for music that bonded them. In the sequel, the plot revolves around the students growing up and finding jobs for themselves. All through this, they have to stick together and prove that external influences won’t deter their friendship in any way. Troy Bolton (Zac Efron)
Troy Bolton is the male protagonist of the movie, played by Zac Efron. Troy is the most popular and well-known student in the East High School. He is also the captain of the basketball team. In the first movie, he is shown entering in a relationship with Gabriella Montez, a shy but smart girl in his school. Both were called to sing a duet in a New Year's Eve party and she subsequently moved to his school.
Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens)
The female protagonist of the movie is Gabriella Montez, played by Vanessa Hudgens. She excels in math and is considered quite intelligent but is very shy. However, she becomes popular when she moves in to East High School. She is paired opposite Troy and they are shown to even split briefly in this movie due to some misunderstandings before getting back together.
Sharpay Evans (Ashley Tisdale)
The antagonist of the film, Sharpay Evans is played by Ashley Tisdale. She is shown to have a major crush on Troy and always plots something or the other to split up Gabrielle and his friends from him. She plans to promote Troy in her club and cancels the performance of the Wildcats as she is convinced that if Troy and Gabrielle sing together, they would definitely win again like they did in the previous movie.
Ryan Evans (Lucas Grabeel)
Ryan Evans is the fraternal twin brother of Sharpay. His role is that of both, the antagonist and protagonist. Though he can be cunning as his sister and also helps her out at times, he finally comes into terms with himself and even befriends Gabrielle and her friends. It is said that he has a crush on Gabrielle.
Chad Danforth (Corbin Bleu)
Troy’s best friend, the role of Chad Danforth is played by Corbin Bleu. He is in a serious relationship with his girlfriend Taylor and even works as a waiter and part-time golf caddy to save money for buying a car to impress her. He gets a little jealous of Troy after he is promoted by Sharpay and even starts to drift away from him. However, towards the end of the movie they both reconcile and become even closer.
