The 65th Golden Globe awards were finally announced on 13th January in Los Angeles, California. The much awaited extravaganza lacked the luster of the yester years and was merely restricted to a formal press conference. All the awards were adroitly read out, unleashing the year long suspense. There were in total 14 categories in the motion picture section, the winners of quite a number of which were predictable. This was proved when the winner for the best motion picture, comedy was declared.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Tim Burton)
Sweeney Todd, directed by Tim Burton, was awarded the best comedy movie at the Golden Globe awards. The movie revolves around Johnny Depp, who is playing the title role. Benjamine Barker (Johnny Depp) is a barber, who is sentenced for 15 years by Judge Turpin, for a crime he never committed. Fifteen years later, he returns to London, after being rescued by a sailor Anthony Hope, to discover his wife dead and his daughter as captive to Judge Turpin.
To take revenge, he opens up a barber shop, with the help of Mrs. Lovette. Disguised as Sweeney Todd, he then invites all his victims to the shop with a beaming smile and murders them later with the flick of his razor. With seething anger he wishes to eliminate all his enemies and unite with his daughter. Moreover, he also wishes to free London from the hands of corrupt aristocracy with the help of Mrs. Lovette.
