The 65 Golden Globe awards were an austere affair compared to previous awards. Due to the ongoing Writers’ Guild Strike in Hollywood, the awards ceremony was called off and the awards were announced in a press conference on January 13 at Beverly Hills. Here are the winners of the 65 Golden Globe awards. The Best Picture-Drama award went to the film "Atonement" while Johnny Depp was named the Best Actor for playing the title role in the film "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street".
With the event being a low key affair, it is estimated that Los Angeles economy lost around $80 million. Catering, fashion, transport, retail & tourism industries were badly affected by the Writers’ Guild Strike.
It is to be noted that the Golden Globe Awards show draws around 20 million viewers from all over the US and champions the cause of small films, increasing box office performance and helping DVD sales.
