Godrej appliances, the well-known company that produces household electrical appliances like fridges, washing machines, etc. has recently announced that it would enter the TV market in India. Within a few months, it would start a pilot project, which will be extended into a highly developed entry into this segment, with its own brand name. This means that earlier speculations about Godrej tying up with Panasonic have been put to rest.
The products manufactured will range from the picture tube based CTVs as well as luxury products like high-definition LCD’s. Thus, Godrej is keeping in mind both major segments of the society - high end as well as the general mass. There are plans to source the picture tube-based flat-screen televisions from a third party manufacturer, while LCD televisions will be imported and then be sold under Godrej brand name.
The country wide launch of the products is expected to be around the middle of 2009. With the launch of TV’s, Godrej will definitely change its image from being a “refrigerator manufacturer” to a more stylized electrical appliances manufacturer. Godrej also manufactures air-conditioners, microwave ovens, DVD players and washing machines and also plans to enter small appliances market in the country.
