A car with a price tag of Rs. 1 lakh is not that hard to believe, but a bicycle costing the same? Yes, you read it right! FireFox, a Noida based bicycle maker is all set to unveil “Madone 5.2”, which is priced at a staggering Rs. 1.68 lakhs! It will be launched and showcased in the Auto Expo 2008 at Delhi. The bicycle is being introduced keeping in mind the theme of Auto Expo, “Mobility for All”. Of course, brand awareness and promotion is another aspect too!
The bicycle is targeted for high-end customers who like to ride their bicycle for vacations. The bicycle is a fun way to explore nearby places and is cost effective too. Though it has not really caught up in India, hopefully, this launching will open up new avenues in travel and tourism. The bicycle is more of a road bike, rather than a mountaineering bike. It is expected to sell at least 60,000 units by 2011. The company had initially launched a bicycle known as 'Fuel Ex 8 Bike', which was priced at Rs 1,06,000.
The bike is being sourced from the company’s US based partner Trek. It will be made of a very light weight OCLV carbon fiber frame and will have upto 20 speed options. The bicycles are aimed at the consumers who look for high-end, good quality and long lasting products. The urban kids will form a huge part of their consumers. However, the bicycle would be available only on personally placed orders and not in bulk like other bicycles.
