Fiat India may launch its premium car, the Alfa Romeo by the last quarter of 2008. According to reports, Fiat speculated that it would launch the Alfa Romeo by December this year. Meanwhile, the two cars Fiat Cinquecento (500) and Fiat Bravo were flagged off here and shall be joining the ‘Ferrari Magic India Drive’ which starts on February 25th in Mumbai. These two cars should be seen on the Indian roads by June this year.
A detailed market study is going on to study the mindset of Indians before launching the Alfa Romeo. This detailed market study and research will help in determining the practicability of the Alfa Romeo models for the Indian market. The price is not confirmed yet, though it is known to be around Rs. 30 lakhs, almost at par with the BMW 3 Series. The plant which is to manufacture the engine has already been commissioned.
The two other cars, Bravo and 500 were unveiled at the Auto Expo held at Delhi last month. These two cars will be available in the completely-built unit (CBU) category from June this year. While the 500 is expected to be priced around Rs 12 lakh, the Bravo would make your pockets lighter by Rs 16 lakh. At the moment, Fiat India has a capacity to manufacture more than 500 cars per month at the Ranjangaon plant in Pune.
