If you don't mind watching the age old story, of the bad guy turning good - after receiving love from someone else's family, in a new package (though not entirely new), then head for the theater and buy the tickets for 'Ek - The Power Of One'. Said to be a Hindi remake of the Telugu film 'Athadu', the movie offers nothing new to the viewers. Still, it has the ability to keep you engrossed, though in sequences that are few and far between. The last 20 minutes, encompassing the climax, might catch your attention as well.

The pace of 'Ek - The Power Of One' engaging initially, but as the main plot begins to take shape, it falls dramatically. Too many sub-plots enter the scene, dragging the story and irritating you at the same time. The action sequences are good and benefit from the crisp editing. Another positive aspect of the film is its excellent cinematography. The dialogues are mostly crude, being witty at a few places only. Even the romance between Bobby and Shriya is half-baked and doesn't prove much convincing.

Performance-wise, the first name that comes to mind is Nana Patekar. He just steals the show with his flirtatious role and crazy one-liners. Even Bobby Deol has performed well and done complete justice to his role. Shriya Saran, looking pretty, did get much scope to act. Ditto with Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Zarina Wahab. Jaspal Bhatti and Sanjay Mishra's comic act was boring, while Chunkey Pandey was bad with his fake Punjabi accent. As for Priti Bhutani, Jackie and Raghuvir Yadav, all of them were quite effective and convincing.

Nandu (Bobby Deol) is an orphan, who ends up becoming an assassin. One day, he gets accused of killing a politician, even though he is completely innocent. In his efforts to run from the police, he ends up in a train. It is here that he meets Shekhar (Pradeep), who is going back to his home after a gap of fourteen years. As the two sit chatting, Shekhar tell Nandu all about his joint family as well as his cousin’s wedding, one of the major reasons for his going home.

Somehow, police manages to trace Nandu in the train. In order to catch him, the police officers shoot at Nandu. The shot which was aimed at Nandu ends up killing Shekhar, who tries to save the former. As promised to Shekhar, Nandu goes to the latter’s home, in his village, to return his grandfathers watch and also break the news of his Shekhar’s death. The problem begins when Shekhar’s family take Nandu to be Shekhar.

Nandu, unable to tell his real identity, reluctantly becomes a part of the wedding celebrations. Here, he also meets Preet (Shriya Saran), the daughter of Shekhar's grandfather's friend. As fate would have it, Preet falls in love with Nandu. On the other hand, Nandu’s case is transferred to CBI Inspector Rane (Nana Patekar). What will happen to Nandu and his love story? How will Shekhar’s family react on knowing the truth? Who is the real killer? For the answers, we will have to wait for the movie’s release, in June 2008.
