After much wait, Drona has finally hit the theaters. And now…we wish it wouldn’t have. The wait was much better than the reality. Based on the fantasy world, something like ‘Amar Chitra Katha’ - I should say, the movie fails miserably on the consistency front. From the modern world of BMWs, we get transformed into a desert castle that is steeped in antiquity, that too in a matter of seconds. Though the special effects are good, at times, they seem too far-fetched. Even the art direction, of the town called ‘Raazpur’, left a lot to be desired.

 

After watching ‘Drona’, one wonders what happened to Goldie Behl, making a movie with such a pathetic storyline. Even the characters in the film have not been well defined, with no depth or background associated with them. The songs are illogical and not at all required. One of the major flaws of the film is its hero ‘Drona’. Abhishek Bachchan is so not meant for such kind of a role. Though he tries his best to play the part convincingly, he fails at the very best. Abhishek looks completely miscast, especially with the excess flab around the tummy area.

 

Coming down to Kay Kay Menon, ‘Drona’ can be termed as one of his worst performances till date. More than a villain or an evil being, he looked like a clown. Jaya Bachchan did not get to do much in the movie. As for Priyanka Chopra, she is the only saving grace. She has been given convincing look and plays the role of an ‘action-oriented’ warrior to perfection. Last, but not the least, the movie could have been tolerable if the length was reduced to 1 hours and 30 minutes (or even less), from 2 hours and 15 minutes.  

Drona Pre-release Review
Drona is the upcoming film of director Goldie Behl. It is said to be a fast paced thriller, packed with romance and action. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. Abhishek Bachchan has worked with Goldie Behl in the movie Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai. The film is being produced under the same banner that produced Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai, Rose Movies. The film will be shot in exquisite locales like Prague, Namibia, China, Bikaner, etc.

Abhishek and Priyanka received training from special trainers for their action sequences in the film. There is much ado about their looks in the movie and both of them have undergone striking transformation. Abhishek’s styling in the film is being done by Anaita Shroff. But the film has been in the news for wrong reasons when recently during the shoot, a horse that was being used in the film died. This garnered the ire of many animal activists. Amitabh Bachchan is said to have invested a huge sum in this movie to establish his son as the leading superstar. One can only wait and watch if the reel-life superhero can become a real-life superstar.
