An American writer and a former call girl, Tracy Quan is best known for her Nancy Chan novels. She also writes on issues related to sex work, and is actively involved in prostitutes' right movement. Her novel, titled 'Diary of a Jetsetting Call Girl' has received some rave reviews. It is referred to as a fun to read novel, and a novel which has an attitude of Bridget Jones.
The Book
This is the third Nancy Clan novel by Tracy Quan and is set during the summer of 2002. It tells the story of Nancy who, faced with numerous problems, accepts an offer to travel with Milt who is one of her most favored customer, to the South of France. Feeling uncertain about having a baby with Matt is also a reason why she decides to move out of New York City. She uses her own mother as an excuse and tells Matt, her husband, that mom has planned a mother-daughter vacation in the South of France, so they can check out some property together.
However, the reality is something totally different. We find Nancy and her friends getting up to some fun activities with Mitt, where a host of new characters join in - including an international madam living in St-Tropez and we also get to know about a romantic involvement with Duncan, Milt's cook. All this keeps thing interesting and fun throughout the novel. Can a married Manhattan girl really go out enjoying with a client? However, after she finds herself attracted towards Milt's enigmatic cook, things take a turn. Can Nancy keep getting away with this? Author
Tracy Quan was born in Northeastern U.S, but she grew up in Ottawa, Canada. She had ancestors who belonged to different parts of the world; Chinese Indian, African and even Dutch. When she was just 10 years old, she read Xaviera Hollander's book 'The Happy Hooker' and then decided to be a prostitute. By 19, she had already started to work as a sex worker, working for an escort agency before she became an independent call girl who had her own client list. She had also reported to earn as much as $500-$800 for a couple of hours.
Quan also spent 15 years as a working girl in London and Manhattan, although she used to juggle between writing and sex work for a few years. Her first stint with writing began when she wrote a column named Nancy Chan: A Diary of a Manhattan Call Girl, for Salon.com. It told Nancy's story of how she juggled between sex work and and her boyfriend/ family. This story has continued onto her novels and at present Quan works as a full-time writer.
Her other works include Nancy Chan: Diary of a Manhattan Call Girl, and Diary of a Married Call Girl: A Nancy Chan Novel. The Diary of a Jetsetting Call Girl is her latest novel which has garnered rave reviews from the media as well as some of the well known writers and authors across the world.
