Considering the different storyline that 'Detective Naani' boasted, we expected to see a good movie (that
too after such a long time!). Alas! All our hopes were dashed to the ground. The 'fantastic' plot of the film seemed to be promising on paper, but failed to transform into something 'interesting' on-screen. The execution of the script was not at all up to the mark, while the screenplay was pathetic, to say the least. Unlike what we expected, there were no funny moments in 'Detective Naani'.
too after such a long time!). One of the main flaws of the movie is that too many sub-plots had been introduced into it, like the romance between two college-going teenagers, the CID officer getting interested in Naani's divorced daughter, and so on. The songs in the movie have no relevance whatsoever and would have been best avoided. Even the editing was shoddy and the 135-odd minutes that 'Detective Naani' stretched seemed to be never-ending. As for the performances, Ava Mukherjee was the only saving grace. Other than that, the movie is a total bore!
Detective Naani Pre Release Review
Tired of the college romances, comedy flicks and action sequences that have dominated the screen in the past? Then, the upcoming flick 'Detective Naani' might just be the movie for you. The debut directorial venture of Romilla Mukherjee, it has Ava Mukherjee, Zain Khan, Simran Singh, Shweta Gulati, Amit Varma, Amrita Saluja, Ankur Nayyar and Hemu Adhikari as a part of the star cast. Produced by Bombay Duck Films Pvt. Ltd., Romilla Mukherjee, Jolly Mukherjee and Urmilla Chatterjee, it will be released on 22nd May 2009.
'Detective Naani' has five songs in it, with the music being provided by Jolly Mukherjee and Romilla Mukherjee being the lyricist. The story of the movie revolves around a 75 year old Naani (Ava Mukherjee). An independent woman, Naani happens to see a little girl peeping nervously from a 3rd floor window, one fine day. Finding something amiss, especially because she knows that the flat belongs to a childless couple, Naani decides to check out a bit and ends up being led to a possible murder.
Naani approaches the CID to tell them about the crime, but her story is dismissed due to lack of solid evidence. So, she decides to investigate the case on her own, along with her two inquisitive little grandchildren, her divorced daughter and a couple of teenagers. With her home-spun common-sense and logic, she starts an investigation, in the classic “detective novels” style. As expected, her inquiries lead to a number of eccentric, but amusing situations. However, soon, Naani finds herself on the trail of a big-time racket.
As Naani starts getting closer to the racket, the danger begins increasing, as the stakes are high and the criminals ruthless. Finally, she finds herself in the same condition as the little girl she saw through the window. Now, Naani's detectives get together and manage to convince the CID. As the case moves further, the two teenagers fall in love and romance blossoms between Naani’s divorced daughter and a CID Inspector. By the time, the whole case is solved, guilty punished and the little girl united with her parents, new lessons are learnt by all.
