The basic plot behind Chal Chalein is not only convincing, but also in tune with the current scenario i.e. the pressure on present-day students, to top in school year after year and fulfill the dreams of their parents. However, somewhere along the line, it could not get converted into an equally convincing movie. The first half of the movie is not only persuasive, but very much engrossing. We see a bunch of kids who are trying to cope up with the boring classes at school and face the wrath of the parents at home, when they fail to get good grades. As the movie progresses towards the second half, where the kids approach their lawyer uncle to find a solution to their ever-pressurizing parents, the pace gets slower. The lengthy courtroom scenes and excessive sermonizing take out the steam from a movie that would have, otherwise, been quite interesting. The kids in the movie performed quite well, but the highlight was the sensitive performance of Mithun Chakraborty. A little more effort could have easily worked wonders for the film and the social message that it has tried to convey.
