Design
The design of the new Canon PowerShot A590IS is very chick. The Canon PowerShot A590 IS measures 94.3 x 64.7 x 40.8 mm and weighs about 175 grams. The main focus is to take the hassle out from
everyday photography while not compromising on the quality of the pictures that are taken. It is beautifully designed yet so lightweight and comes in a beautiful silver or black body and is very comfortable to hold as well.
everyday photography while not compromising on the quality of the pictures that are taken. It is beautifully designed yet so lightweight and comes in a beautiful silver or black body and is very comfortable to hold as well.Apart from the various functional buttons for controlling the exposure, shutter, etc., the backside of the camera also has a 2.5 inch LCD display to preview the shot that is being taken and also to review the pictures and videos that have already been shot. When fully extended, the lens does not protrude too much on the outer side, making it quite a pleasure to work with. The size of the camera is also pretty small; hence, carrying it inside a pocket is not going to be a problem.
Features
The PowerShot A590IS comes loaded with features for a camera of its size and capability. It has 8-megapixel resolution and a 4x zoom lens that makes shooting distant objects very easy. It also gives the users an option to shoot in 19 shooting modes, from fully automatic to fully manual operations. This enhances the creative control of the camera. It also has Canon's optical Image stabilization system incorporated in it, which means the pictures clicked through it will not be blurry. The IS (Image Stabilization) system reduces the effects of camera shake thus avoiding the blurry pictures.
The Canon PowerShot A590IS also contains Canon's Motion Detection technology which determines automatically how much the subject has moved from the frame and adjusts the exposure accordingly. Motion Detection technology takes information from various sources - Face Detection technology, scene brightness, subject movement, etc. After taking in the information, it calculates the minimum boost in the ISO levels that is required to correctly expose the image.
This review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the brilliant face detection technology where-by it detects all the faces available in the picture that is being composed. Face detection sets the exposure, white balance, etc. correctly so that the picture comes out beautifully exposed. The low light performance of the camera is also credible. The new AF Point Zoom allows photographers to magnify the AF frame when the shutter button is pressed half way. This helps in clicking pictures under low light conditions.
Overall, the Canon PowerShot A590IS is a brilliant camera. Coupled with an 8-megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom, high ISO sensitivity range, face detection technology and Image Stabilization, the 590IS makes for a great buy.
