With Black & White, Subhash Ghai moved into an unexplored arena and the best part is that, the ace director managed to pull it off. Even though he deviated from his usual pattern of ‘larger than life’ movies with extravagant sets and lavish locales, he definitely proved his talent once again. Black and White is one of those movies that compel you to think. At the time when comedies and romances are ruling the roost, making a movie that shows the dark side of the world requires courage and this is exactly what Ghai has shown.

The story of Black & White is as realistic as the actual life and is very close to the contemporary world. However, in no way is the film dark, depressing or preaching. Under the direction of Subhash Ghai, the script has come out very beautifully and infact, some of its scenes would definitely leave an unforgettable impression on you. Black & White has gone beyond the gory violence of terrorism. It has tried to explore the mind that works behind it. The movie has shown that no person is totally good or totally bad.

People have both good and bad characteristics and the people around them can bring out either of the two qualities in an individual. Black & White has shown the perfect transformation of a merciless, hardhearted murderer into someone who cares for others and breaks the norms to do what he has started believing in. Just like any other movie, Black and White has a few negative sides too. The length of the movie seems to be a bit too much and the screenplay could have been better.

Even, the romantic part thrown in the movie looked more than a bit out of track. Another negative point is that the reasons that bring about a change in the heartless terrorist do not seem convincing enough. Despite the shortcomings, the movie manages to impress you and this is why it is worth watching. As far as the performances go, Anil Kapoor has once again proved that he is a totally versatile actor. The newcomer, Anurag Sinha, plays his part to perfection. Infact most of the actors, including Shifaali Shah, Aroon Bakshi and Milind Gunaji, have done a good job. All in all, a film worth the money spent in a multiplex.
