BhoothnathThe title sounds scary, but the movie is not! There are certainly some really eerie moments, but overall, the film turns out to be a culmination of strong emotions portrayed beautifully. For all those kids who have always wanted to watch a horror-yet-sensitive movie (other than Hollywood), Bhootnath is the answer to their question. Amitabh Bachchan plays the title role and be-friends Banku (Aman Siddiqui). Banku has shifted to an old bungalow named Nath Villa in Goa with his parents, played by Juhi Chawla and Shah Rukh Khan. No servant would come to work there and even taxi drivers refuse to go near this bungalow. The reason? It is haunted!

Banku is the only one who can see Amitabh’s ghost. He starts calling him Angel after his mother says there is no such thing as ghost. Soon, his friends start talking about his mysterious friend whom only he can see. There are some funny scenes thrown in between that beautifully capture the growing bond between Bhootnath and Banku. The reason why you must go and watch this movie is for its sheer simplicity. This is one of those movies that you will remember for portraying simple human emotions that you can connect with.

As for performances, Shah Rukh and Juhi are convincing as parents, with Juhi taking up most of the credit. Satish Shah is okay as the school principal and Rajpal Yadav also tries his best not to go overboard. But what stands out is the performance of Aman and Amitabh Bachchan. The former is almost natural as a mischievous and innocent seven year old, while the latter can really send shivers down your spine as a horrible ghost. Cinematography is good and director Vivek Sharma knows how to make his stars deliver a good performance. The only thing that falls behind is the music, which wouldn’t have made much of a difference if it was not there! A must-watch movie if you have kids and even if you don’t!

Bhootnath Pre-release review
After winning the heart of the audience with ‘Babul’, Ravi Chopra is all set to woo them once again. This time the producer has tried his hands at a different concept altogether, that of a relationship between a child and a ghost. Titled ‘Bhoothnath’, the movie will be the directorial debut of Vivek Sharma. The music has been given by the famous duo of Vishal- Shekhar, along with Salim Merchant. The lyrics are from none other than Javed Akhtar.

The star cast of Bhoothnath includes Amitabh Bachchan, Juhi Chawla, Shahrukh Khan, Satish Shah, Rajpal Yadav and Aman Siddiqui (child artiste). Bhoothnath delves on the true friendship that takes place between two distinct entities, a mischievous child and a troubled ghost. Banku (Aman Siddiqui) moves to a new house, Nath Villa, along with his family. However, the happy family members do not know that they have an uninvited guest in the house - a ghost ‘Bhootnath’ (Amitabh Bachchan).

If his presence was not enough, the ghost doesn’t even like his new housemates. Though irritable initially, Bhoothnath soon forms a bond of friendship with Banku. Anjali Sharma (Juhi Chawla), Banku’s mom, is as fun-loving as him. She is easy going, loves to play with her son and indulges in everything, except for the routine household chores. For the last purpose, she hires a domestic servant, Anthony (Rajpal Yadav), who is more interested in drinking than working.

The drunkard servant, though, manages to raise quite a few laughs with his stupor. Then, we have Principal Irani (Satish Shah), principal of Banku's new school. More than studies, he is interested in the lunch boxes of his students. The duo of Banku and Bhoothnath manage to play a few pranks on him as well. As the film draws to an end, Banku realizes that he has to know the reason why his friend has not achieved salvation till now and help him get the same now.
