How To Pierce Belly Button

Things Required

  • 14g Piercing Needle
  • Alcohol Cleansing Pads
  • Body Ink Marker
  • Mirror
  • Clamps
  • Rubber Gloves
  • 14g Starter Jewelry
Procedure
  • Do a thorough research on belly piercing, its pros and cons, the various techniques and types of piercing. Researching will give you a better understanding and will lead you to logical decision making. It will also guide you to adopt proper techniques for safe piercing. Once you are sure about the types and techniques of piercing, gather all the items that you would need for the piercing.
  • It is now time to clean your tools and make sure they are disinfected properly. For this, you will have to use a bowl or cup filled with alcohol to submerge the equipment, including the piercing needle and jewelry. You can alternatively rub the gear with alcohol soaked cotton balls to make sure they are sterilized as they should be.
  • Put on the gloves to prevent contaminating your piercing with dirt or bacteria. In case you don’t have gloves, wash your hands thoroughly with hot water and soap at least twice.
  • The next step is to select the location around the navel you want pierced. Ideally, navel piercing is done above the navel, but the distance from your navel is something that you can decide on. You can try placing the jewel at different locations in front of the mirror until you decide on the location to be pierced. You can even mark the spot with ink to make work easier for yourself.
  • Now, dip a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol and use it to disinfect the entire area around your navel. Repeat the same process using a clean cotton ball each time. Make sure that you cover the entire area of your navel as well as the surrounding area to avoid infections.
  • Next, wrap an ice cube in a paper towel and hold it against your navel for about a minute or two. Ice will help numb the area thereby reducing the pain you may feel and the swelling that follows.
  • Remove the ice and push the piercing needle slowly through your navel at the point you have marked with the ink. Make sure that you continue to breathe deeply during the piercing process. Not everyone experiences bleeding during navel piercing, but it is better to be prepared to see some blood.
  • Once the needle is through your skin, remove it and immediately replace it with the navel ring. Your skin will start closing immediately after you remove the needle, therefore to reduce the pain of inserting the ring, you will have to be really quick. You can now admire your new belly button piercing!
