The reputed German healthcare company Bayer, in an attempt to consolidate its position in the diabetes care market, is rolling out a blood sugar monitor, designed exclusively for the Indian market. The blood glucose monitor is said to be priced below Rs. 1000. The research and analysis required for launching this product has already been started by Bayer Diabetes Care, a part of Bayer HealthCare. This product should be ready by next year end and will be launched by 2009.
The blood sugar monitoring device will cause a revolution of sorts in the Indian market as right now; the entry-level price is around Rs. 1500. The product is targeted at the general masses and if successful in India, it will be launched in other major markets of Asia like China. The product however, is still in the planning stage and the finer details regarding the production of this monitor are being worked out. The product will maintain top quality standards on its features and functioning.
When the product will be launched in 2009, it will be distributed across 90 cities from the current 25. Recently, Bayer had unveiled a new blood glucose monitor in India that had a “no code” technology. It was named ContourT TS and it made its global debut in India. In order to grow their portfolio in India, they are also planning to introduce HbA1c blood glucose monitor along with a couple of other products. Bayer has also signed an agreement with Starcom MediaVest group it advertise and conduct campaign its products in India.
