One hour into ‘Aao Wish Karein’ and you start wondering whether the movie is focused on children or meant to have adults as its audience. On one hand, the fairytale part and the presence of sooo many kids (they are actually too many) makes it look like a kiddie flick. On the other, the romance between Aftab Shivadasani and Aamna Sharif brings in the ‘romance’ genre that is meant for the youth. The concept seems to have been inspired from Tom Hanks-starrer Big (1988), but lacks the masala that made the film get nominated for two Oscars.

‘Aao Wish Karein’ is the story of a 12-year-old boy who turns 21 overnight and starts serenading the lady he fell in love with, as a kid. Now, the problem is that the film shows him having grown up only physically, while mentally he is still a child and behaves as such. So, you can imagine what the romantic scene would be like (chemistry being totally non-existent). Has the kid been shown grown up mentally as well, being matured and all, it would have made the film a few notches better. Alas! This was not meant to be!

The ending of ‘Aao Wish Karein’ is not bad, but it could have done with a bit more imagination, since it’s a fairytale we are talking about. The surprise package in the movie is the songs, which are quite hummable, especially Kuch aisa and sabse peeche khade. As for the performances, Aftab can be applauded, for playing his part with sincerity. Aamna Sharif looks good, but is hardly doing anything beyond that. Johny Lever, Rati Agnihotri and Yatin Karyekar are impressive. The movie works in only bits and parts and will make a better DVD watch!

Aao Wish Karein Pre-release Review
‘Aao Wish Karien’ is a fantasy flick, which marks the directorial debut of Glenn Baretto. The movie is produced by Aftab Shivdasani, who is also playing the lead role in the film. Giving him company are actors like Aamna Shariff and Johny Lever. Xulfi, Ankur Tewari and Mikey Mccleary have set music to the lyrics penned by Xulfi, Ankur Tewari, and Danish Khan. The movie is slated for a release on November 13, 2009.

‘Aao Wish Karien’ is the story of a 12-year-old boy Mickey, who seems to be God’s favorite child till his beautiful ‘castle in the sky’ is dashed to the ground, by the harsh reality of life. Mickey has a fairytale life, which encompasses a caring and beautiful family, a best pal, and his angel on earth, Mitika. However, his heart is shattered when he gets to know that he is an adopted child and his 23-year-old love, Miitka, calls him a ‘Kid’.

Mickey tries to steer away of reality, which is staring him in the face. Exhausted and drained completely, he sits by himself, sad and dejected by the unbelievable reality. Even as he is disconsolate, Hitchcock guesses his story from the dried up pattern of his free-flowing tears. He philosophizes on Mickey’s situation by saying, “Bad things happen to good people, but my dear Mickey, good things always follow".

Mickey feels so miserable and low that he wishes for a miracle to make him big overnight. As he returns home that night, he dozes off to sleep, fatigued with the events of the day. He wakes up the next morning to witness his world upside-down. While he does wake up to a miracle, he is not sure whether it is a blessing in disguise or a curse? Will Mickey be able to fit into his family? Will Mitika realize his love for her? You will have to await the answers till the movie hits theatres.
