An edge-of-the-seat action-thriller, 'A Wednesday' is one of those rare films that you don't want to describe to anyone after watching it, lest it spoils the fun he/she will have by watching it. It is a movie that is sure to acquire a cult status.
Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah as the main actors. Anupam and Naseer, two brilliant actors, have been cast in the same movie after years and the result is for all to see. An edge-of-the-seat action-thriller, 'A Wednesday' is one of those rare films that you don't want to describe to anyone after watching it, lest it spoils the fun he/she will have by watching it. It is a movie that is sure to acquire a cult status. The best part of 'A Wednesday' is that it is not the usual, Bollywood 'masala' movies, where the main protagonist fights the battle alone and still, wins it. No cinematic liberties have been taken and the script is as close to the reality as possible. Even the minutest of details have been taken into consideration and this is what lends more credibility to the movie. The screenplay is excellent and the characters have been etched beautifully, bringing out the essence, but saving the unnecessary probe into the past.
While Neeraj has built the story beautifully, its progress towards the amazing pre-climax is also commendable. The climax is not the usual 'run of the mill' one, rather is full of conviction. On top of that, the director has even managed to draw an agreeable conclusion. The duration of 100 minutes has ensured that 'A Wednesday' avoids drag and does not have any of the redundant scenes. The camera has also been handled splendidly. If that wasn't enough, the movie also carries a social message within it, which unfolds towards the end.
Talking about performances, Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah top the list of those who deserve applause. But then, from these veteran actors, could we have expected anything less! Jimmy Sheirgill and Aamir Bashir, as fellow police officers, definitely managed to create an impact. Deepal Shaw, for a change, comes across as capable and carried off the 'wannabe reporter' role well. Whether you go to the theater on weekend or weekday, make sure to see 'A Wednesday' and feel your emotions being stirred after a long time!
